Sweetwater High showcases BOSS, Health and Welding academies to board

Principal Alejandra Anzunza introduced Sweetwater High School staff and students who highlighted the school’s BOSS Institute internships, Health Academy (a California Partnership Academy) and Welding Academy.
Sophia Sandoval, a chemistry teacher and BOSS Institute adviser, and two student interns described the program’s 10 research sessions in La Jolla and said the experience exposed students to laboratory equipment, university mentors, soil‑health research and public presentations of findings.
Health Academy coordinator Christina Lamont and three students described internships and mentorship experiences that helped students prepare for college and careers in health fields; a student said she is now attending Grossmont College and credited the Health Academy with providing hands‑on practice and college preparedness.
Welding Academy coordinator Patricia (Patty) Cruz introduced three students from different grade levels who described how the welding pathway helped them plan for trades and careers after graduation.
Why it matters: The presentations showcased career and pathway programs that district staff said connect classroom learning with internships, college pathways, credentialing and employability skills.
Ending: The board thanked students and staff and took a group photo after the presentations.
