Waukegan CUSD 60 announced that kindergarten registration for the 2025-26 school year is now open for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, district communications director Nicholas Aladzakis said in the district's weekly update released the week of Feb. 10.
Parents of children enrolled in the district’s EPIC preschool program may register through the parent portal. For children not enrolled in EPIC, the district is holding in-person kindergarten registration events on March 15, April 12 and April 26 at Whittier Elementary School; parents may secure appointments online, the announcement said. Families must bring a birth certificate and two proofs of residency. The district said additional screenings may be required for students who speak another language, and that required medical records and full registration details are posted on the district website.
Registration for all other grades opens March 10, the announcement said.
The district also released its midyear assessment data for classroom and interim tests. The report, the district said, highlights gains in student attendance and in NWEA math and reading performance, drawn from tier 1 classroom assessments and the NWEA math interim test. The district referenced an additional internal tracking measure in the update but did not specify that metric in the announcement. The district encouraged families to review the full report, which includes a video presentation and information on tutoring and summer-learning opportunities, on its website.
Waukegan CUSD 60 promoted its annual Black History Month celebration for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Waukegan High School Brookside Campus. The event’s theme is “African Americans and Labor,” and the free program will include educational activities and a canned-food drive benefiting local food pantries; preregistration is encouraged but not required, the district said.
The announcement closed with an operational reminder that the district will be closed Monday, Feb. 17, for Presidents Day; classes will resume Tuesday.
