The Winslow Township Board heard a marketing committee report recommending expanded digital outreach, including targeted text-message alerts and a supervised, student‑led social media club to promote district events and student achievements.
Committee member McManus reported the marketing committee met on Feb. 8 and recommended leveraging existing district text‑blast capabilities to send timely updates about events and achievements to parents, students and staff. He described an example text blast with a linked video and argued the tool would improve timely communication.
The committee also proposed establishing a student‑led social media club (operating under adult supervision) to create content for platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and short-form video services. The plan envisions student interviews with National Honor Society members, coverage of athletic and community events such as Juneteenth, and both long‑form and short‑form content to foster engagement and student media skills. The committee suggested the model could be districtwide or school‑specific (for example, separate clubs for middle and high schools).
The marketing committee framed the proposals as low‑cost ways to increase stakeholder engagement, develop student digital skills, and better market district successes. The board received the report; no formal vote or funding allocation occurred during the meeting.
