District advisory committee urges outside technology audit and dress-code review to support teacher retention

The Winslow Township Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) reported to the board and recommended that the district hire an outside firm to audit its technology infrastructure and that the policy committee review the district teacher dress code to aid teacher retention and morale.

A CAC representative, speaking in place of the CAC chair, said the group had focused on three areas — technology, community culture and environment, and teacher retention — and recommended “an outside technology audit” to review infrastructure, routers, service providers and other systems so “this no longer impacts student achievement.” The committee noted recurring concerns with internet connectivity, Chromebook functioning and lost instructional time during i‑Ready benchmarks. The representative pointed to technology policy (2360) in the district code while asking for clarity on whether the district’s technology plan has been updated.

On teacher retention, the CAC representative told the board the committee viewed retention as a local manifestation of a broader statewide and national trend. The CAC asked the policy committee to examine the teacher dress code, including medical exceptions (for example, allowing sneakers when medically necessary), as a low‑cost measure to boost morale and appreciation for staff.

Board members discussed the item without taking immediate action; the recommendations were presented for consideration. The CAC also said it would follow up with written materials and policy suggestions for the policy committee’s review. The report did not include a proposed vendor, scope of work, or cost estimate for an audit.
