Board members and district staff used the opening portion of the meeting to recognize students and staff across the district. The board and presenters introduced student-of-the-month honorees from Greenwood, Green Primary, Green Intermediate, Green Middle and Green High School and presented a staff "spotlight" sponsored by the Green Schools Foundation.
Mister Miller introduced the students of the month and summarized nominations and teacher comments for each honoree. Greenwood's February student was Beau (Bo) Swizzler (kindergarten), noted for reading skills and classroom engagement. Green Primary's student of the month was Brian Samsel III, highlighted for his interest in math and reading. Green Intermediate's honoree Ryan Kennedy was recognized for honors ELA and math, participation in the Lion King musical and involvement on the math competition team. Green Middle School selected Katie Divert for kindness, teamwork and strong class participation. Green High School named seniors Meredith Walker and Hunter Hanneman as seniors of the month; Walker was described as active in multiple clubs and student leadership roles, and Hanneman was noted for athletics, JROTC leadership and community service representation.
The board also presented a Spotlight on Staff, sponsored by the Green Schools Foundation. The spotlight named three employees: Mr. Ryan Flynn (teacher/mentor), Dakota (district technology staff) and Sue (educational aide at the intermediate school). Remarks from nominators cited Flynn's compassion and mentorship, Dakota's responsiveness and technical support across the district, and Sue's patience, adaptability and daily support of students, including bus duty in inclement weather.
The recognitions preceded the regular business agenda and drew applause from board members and the audience. Presenters invited families and honorees to stand and be acknowledged; no formal board action was required for the recognitions.
