Peoria County Board approves consent items, appointments and $300,000 landfill support; zoning mini-storage passes

The board approved the January meeting minutes and the consent agenda by recorded vote. An appointments package was amended on the floor to remove Robert Wheeland from the Agriculture Committee and add County Board Member Danny Phelan to the Illinois Association of Counties; the amendment and the amended appointments list passed by recorded vote.
Zoning: The board voted 15-0 to approve zoning case ZBA2025-0004, a petition by Trent Overhue, as amended at committee to allow indoor mini-storage only (the previously shown outdoor storage was removed). The county clarified the committee amendment prohibited the outdoor storage element and the board acted on the indoor-only plan.
Budget and intergovernmental agreement: The board approved a joint resolution, recommended by the Health Committee and the Finance, Audit and Legislative Affairs Committee, to amend the FY25 budget by $300,000 to provide operational support to the Peoria City-County Landfill Committee. The funding was authorized pursuant to an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Peoria dated Jan. 15, 1997. The motion carried with 15 ayes.
Public comment: Clark Abraham, representing the Peoria Chapter of the Sierra Club, used the Citizens’ Remarks period to urge support for wind energy and for property rights, saying renewable energy could boost local schools and the county economy.
Other business: Board members were reminded of a strategic planning meeting tentatively scheduled for the morning of Saturday, March 22. The meeting adjourned after miscellaneous announcements and brief praise for the board’s new voting software.
