Public Works details 2025 streets, bike-path and crosswalk plans; bids to include railing and signal options

Kyla, the village’s public works and utility director, told the Public Works Committee that Strand is wrapping up design work for the 2025 Streets and Pedestrian Improvements Project and that the bid package will present a set of alternates for the committee and Village Board to decide later.

The project design calls for concrete through commercial driveway aprons to create a visible contrast with surrounding asphalt, and staff plans to bury existing overhead fiber and power lines where Alliant Energy permits. Kyla said the project includes a reconstructed retaining wall with a light-tan limestone-colored face, a concrete cap and a black-steel railing to match the existing rail along the nearby bike path. “We bid it with 2 different types of rails, 2 different heights, and then just decide later,” she said.
