Student representative Landon honored; Chloe Teyser named successor as committee approves subcommittee rosters

The Middletown School Committee recognized departing Student Representative Landon at his final meeting and approved a new student representative and a slate of subcommittee assignments.

Student Representative Landon summarized recent high school activities, including Health Careers Academy visits, winter concerts, athletics highlights and mock trial successes, and said midterm exams and senior projects were underway. Committee members presented Landon with a certificate of appreciation.

Donna Sweet, identified in the meeting as a principal, said Landon had been an exemplary student representative; she and others noted four strong candidates had applied to succeed him. The committee named Chloe Teyser as the next student representative; the administration indicated Teyser will be supported by an advisory panel formed from other strong applicants, including Lila Christie as an alternate.

Separately, the committee reviewed and approved a list of subcommittee assignments (budget, career/CTE, building, policy, grievance, facilities advisory, safety advisory, audit, health and wellness, open space, career pathways, negotiations and prevention coalition assignments). Several members asked to be removed from specific committees until duties and time commitments were clarified, particularly the Career Tech/Pathways grouping and the Open Space Committee. Members also discussed the grievance committee’s requirement for three primary members and whether that creates a quorum that would require separate meeting postings; the committee was advised by school counsel to ensure appropriate future postings.

The committee voted to approve the subcommittee nominations as amended and asked staff to publish final rosters.
