The Middletown School Committee voted Wednesday to approve an employee separation agreement and to seal the minutes of the executive session, and approved a series of routine items including the district budget calendar, new substitute pay rates, a Khan Academy contract, and several policy readings.
The committee approved the employee separation agreement after a motion and second; members then voted to seal the executive-session minutes. The committee also approved the consent agenda and adopted a budget calendar that the superintendent recommended. The committee voted to increase substitute pay, approved a contract for Khan Academy services intended for high school SAT/ACT preparation, and approved the first and final reading of Policy 9000 (facilities use) and Policy 4180 (background investigation check). The committee approved a first reading of Policy 1041 (school committee policy process).
Many of the motions were made and seconded from the floor during the meeting; recorded roll call at the start showed five members present. No individual roll-call votes with member-by-member tallies were included in the public transcript for most items; each motion was announced as passed by voice vote.
The meeting record shows the committee also voted to authorize the town administrator to seek services to conduct a feasibility study related to a project labor agreement for the new middle–high school construction project and voted to forward a recommendation to the Middletown Town Council to name the new buildings Middletown Middle School and Middletown High School.
Other governance votes included approving a set of subcommittee assignments as presented by the chair. The meeting concluded with routine updates from the superintendent and staff and an adjournment vote.
