School committee approves elementary assistant principal job description for planned combined Greystone/Centeredale school

Superintendent Goho asked the committee to approve an elementary assistant principal job description and contract template to support the planned consolidation of Greystone and Centeredale schools. The committee voted to approve items A and B, which include the job description and contract template, and the motion carried.

Why it matters: the district is planning to combine Greystone and Centeredale into a single school that will house both student populations and preschool programs. Goho told the committee the new building is expected to serve roughly 550 students (plus preschool) and that the administration wants to begin transition work a year early so the administrative team is prepared when the combined school opens.

Timeline and staffing plan: the administration described a transition plan in which an elementary assistant principal would be hired to begin July 1. Donna Hanley, currently principal at Centeredale, is slated to become principal of the combined school; the assistant principal would spend next year serving as the primary administrator at Greystone while Hanley splits time between sites to support the transition. Goho said two retirees, Lorraine Michela and Lori DeSimone, have been covering the Greystone principal responsibilities since last year.

Compensation and staffing notes: when asked about salary, Goho said the finance office was finalizing the range and that an approximate range under discussion was $108,000 to $113,000, which would place the role slightly below middle school assistant principal pay. Goho emphasized the position is “a new position but it is not an additional position” in terms of budget impact.
