"In all seriousness, I'm Angie Hibbert. I'm the CRA manager. And as Winter Haven becomes a more walkable community and trail friendly, we hope that everybody will take a moment to refresh on how to safely cross the crosswalk, what it means living for pedestrians, and working together to keep all of us safer in Winter Haven," Hibbert said. She noted simple steps for pedestrians: prepare, press the crosswalk button and wait for the signal; when the lights illuminate, pedestrians may cross, and drivers must yield to people in the crosswalk under state law, she said.
An attendee earlier offered a humorous demonstration of the instructions, saying, "Before you push the button, make sure you have stretch and you are in shape to do it properly. Once you're fully warmed up, simply push the button, the lights will illuminate, and you may safely cross the rock." The exchange lasted under two minutes.
