Long-serving Commissioner Jonathan Webster tells board he has submitted resignation

FRANKLIN — Commissioner Jonathan Webster told the City of Franklin Board of Public Works on Feb. 11 that he submitted his resignation to the mayor and that the meeting would be his last.
Webster said he had served on the board for decades and that he had recently told Mayor John Nelson of his decision. "I moved myself from the chairman about a year ago, and it has come time for me to give my resignation to the mayor, which I did last weekend," Webster said, adding he believed his service began either December 1991 or January 1992.
Mayor John Nelson offered public thanks during the meeting for Webster’s service, calling it "a bit of a huge farewell" and praising Webster’s knowledge of the board’s work. "You always had the answers and always had the details and I appreciate that," Nelson said, and said he plans a future Common Council proclamation recognizing Webster.
Webster said he decided it was time to "move on and let new blood come into the board." He spoke during the meeting’s public-comment period; he did not state an effective resignation date beyond having submitted it to the mayor.
The board did not take formal action on the resignation during the Feb. 11 meeting.
