Committee backs rapid‑flashing beacon at Hamilton Street and Harrington Way to protect school routes

Petitioner Giselle Grenier cited dark mornings and evenings and the crossing’s width — roughly 60 feet — and said she has “personally witnessed several occasions where these students are coming within just a few feet of being hit because of poor lighting in the area or distracted drivers.” Another resident, Victoria Schultz, also testified in opposition to the current conditions.
Commissioner Steve Raleigh told the committee the crossing is wide and that curb ramps are in place (one will need an update); staff recommended approval pending funding. The committee moved to accept the recommendation and voted unanimously. Raleigh said the device could be installed once funding and scheduling are confirmed.
