The Worcester City Parking & Traffic Committee voted Wednesday to install a stop sign on Azalea Drive at its intersection with Rainbow Drive following testimony from a neighborhood resident and a recommendation from the Department of Transportation and Mobility.
The petition came from a Winter Heights resident who said vehicles turn into Rainbow Drive at high speed and that “no one yields, no one stops,” creating a hazard for pedestrians and neighborhood residents. Commissioner of Transportation and Mobility Steve Raleigh told the committee the intersection does not meet warrants for an all‑way stop but does meet the requirements for a stop sign on Azalea Drive itself, and he recommended approval.
Committee Chair Donna Colorio moved to accept the department’s recommendation. Councillors Moe Bergman and King joined Florio in a unanimous roll‑call vote to approve the installation. Commissioner Raleigh said the city can place the sign once the vote is final.
The decision follows the committee’s standard warrant review process for stop controls. No timeline for installation was specified during the meeting.
