The Somerville City Council on Tuesday approved an intermunicipal agreement among the City of Somerville, the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Health Alliance and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to establish the Somerville‑Cambridge Public Health Collaborative.
Anoop Malik, health and human services finance manager, explained that the prior agreement had expired and the new agreement renews the partnership. Malik said the collaborative supports shared public‑health programming and planning across municipal lines and that the administration sought immediate consideration at the meeting.
The council voted on the floor and approved the agreement, sending it forward to implementation. The administration indicated it would proceed with joint operations among the signatories.
Why it matters: Formalizing regional collaboration with a health system and the MPO supports joint public‑health responses and may enable shared services and funding coordination between Somerville and neighboring partners.
