Liberty County board approves agenda, minutes, consent items and elects new vice chair

The Liberty County Board of Education opened its first regular meeting of 2025 and approved routine business items, then elected a new vice chair and recessed into executive session.
Chair Jones called for approval of the meeting agenda and the board approved it by voice vote. The board then approved minutes from the Dec. 17, 2024 meeting and carried the consent agenda, which included out‑of‑state travel items, HVAC upgrades and a landscaping contract. The board approved the November 2024 financial statements by voice vote.
During the election for vice chair, Board Member Carol Guyette and Board Member Lavonia LeCount were nominated. Members voted by raised hands; the tally reported at the meeting was three votes for Carol Guyette and four votes for Lavonia LeCount. Lavonia LeCount was declared the new vice chair.
Before recessing, the board moved into executive session for personnel and property matters; the motion carried with a second and an affirmative vote. The board invited the public to remain in the chamber until its return.
