Superintendent proposes Liberty Educational Advancement Foundation to seek private support

Superintendent Dr. Perry told the Liberty County Board of Education the district is proposing to establish the Liberty Educational Advancement Foundation to raise private funds for programs and opportunities not covered by restricted public funding.
“We feel like right now we're getting funds from federal, state, and local. And as you know, those funds are specific as to what you can use them for,” Dr. Perry told the board, explaining the rationale for a district foundation to pursue unrestricted private gifts and corporate partnerships.
District presenters outlined the foundation’s mission to broaden academic and cultural opportunities through support for STEM projects, literacy initiatives, field trips, arts and extracurricular programming. The board packet included proposed bylaws; presenters said the bylaws have been submitted to the district attorney for review, and they will provide paper copies to board members who did not receive them electronically.
Board members cited examples of other Georgia districts with foundations and encouraged moving forward. One board member said foundations have funded study‑abroad and cultural experiences without cost to parents. Several members thanked district leaders for developing the proposal and asked the administration to return with final bylaws after legal review.
No formal vote was taken; the board asked that the bylaws be resent and reviewed by the board attorney. District staff said they will provide printed copies and follow up with the attorney’s comments before seeking board approval.
