Superintendent Baker announced upcoming district events and opportunities for community involvement: two superintendent virtual forums in February (sessions at noon and 6 p.m.; notices were sent to parents), a Black History Month reading volunteer program during the week ending Feb. 13 where community volunteers may read to elementary classes, and a town hall hosted by Dr. Scott at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in March from 6 to 7 p.m. Baker also noted a high-school basketball game where student-athlete Chris Perry is expected to reach 1,000 career points at Tiger Arena versus Flint Academy at 7:30 p.m.
Board members also noted a “first Saturday” meeting at Midway Congregational Church where the state representative may discuss House Bill 581; the meeting will be held in the church annex from 8 to 9 a.m. A guest speaker for the first Saturday meeting in February is named as Miss Graham from the United Way.
Board members said outreach must reach residents quickly because some items related to the legislation and public meetings are time sensitive. No formal board action on outreach funding or materials was recorded at the meeting.
