Liberty County staff select Savvas MyView for K–5 ELA adoption after staff vote

Liberty County School System staff recommended adopting Savvas MyView as the district’s K–5 English language arts curriculum after a committee review and a teacher vote, district curriculum staff told the school board.
The recommendation follows a series of vendor demonstrations and classroom reviews required under Georgia’s literacy law. “As part of House Bill 538, the Georgia Early Literacy Act, it is required that districts select from the approved Georgia DOE list for a high quality instructional materials,” Miss Ziegler told the board, summarizing the state requirement and the district’s adoption process.
The district convened an adoption committee in April 2024 that narrowed 12 state‑approved options to four finalists. Vendors provided sample kits to elementary schools; staff attended presentations in fall 2024. In December a district survey of ELA teachers yielded 91 responses; 64.9% favored Savvas MyView, Ziegler said. She said the district will purchase the curriculum and provide professional development for staff.
Ziegler said the purchase is a one‑time acquisition intended to cover a four‑year adoption cycle and that the cost was budgeted in the district’s 2024–25 ELA appropriation. The district plans spring and summer training so teachers will have materials and pacing guidance before full classroom use.
Board members did not take a formal vote on the recommendation during the information presentation. Ziegler said the contract and funding details will be returned to the board for approval at a future meeting.
The district presented the adoption steps to show alignment with state rubrics and the new ELA standards; board members asked no substantive questions during the presentation.
The board will receive a formal purchasing and implementation proposal with contract language and professional development timelines before final adoption.
