The Liberty County Board of Education voted to reorder the agenda so a scheduled hearing on House Bill 581 would occur before the board addressed an action item to opt out of that bill.
Madam Chair Jones asked for a motion to move "action item b, intend to opt out of House Bill 581" to the information items so the hearing could occur first. A trustee moved, a second was recorded, and the motion carried by voice vote.
The board then approved the minutes from the Jan. 28 public hearing and the Jan. 28 regular board work session after a motion and second; the chair called for the voice vote and the motion carried.
Trustees also approved the consent agenda in a unanimous voice vote after a motion and second.
Later in the meeting the chair asked for a motion to move into executive session because the hearing could not begin before 6:30 p.m. A motion and a second were made and the board moved into executive session; meeting participants were told the board would return at 6:30 for the scheduled hearing on House Bill 581.
Nut graf: The votes were recorded on the meeting record as motions with seconds and voice votes; the transcript records "ayes" but does not provide individual roll-call tallies.
Ending: The board adjourned to executive session and planned to resume at 6:30 p.m. to conduct the House Bill 581 hearing.
