County issues proclamations for Black History Month and National Engineers Week; announces community events and meetings

Doña Ana County issued two proclamations and announced several community events during the Feb. 11, 2025 Board of County Commissioners meeting recap.
A proclamation in honor of Black History Month was presented to Mitchell Boyer, described in the recap as a descendant of Frances and Ella Boyer, members of one of the 13 founding families of Blackdom, the Black homesteader colony in New Mexico. Mitchell Boyer accepted the proclamation on behalf of the family; the recap said he was joined by Dr. Bob Green and Howard Guyan of the Doña Ana County NAACP office.
A second proclamation recognized National Engineers Week and was presented to El Paso Electric and its team of engineers.
The county also announced community events and schedule items: a Valentine's Day "Romance at the Rotunda" event at the Government Center on Feb. 14; an April staff development retreat and workshop (recap gave dates April 23 through April 25); and a State of the County address set for May 6. The recap also noted that the Board of County Commissioners is using more livestreamed work sessions to allow deeper discussion before regular meetings.
