At its Jan. 21 meeting the West Warwick Town Council approved a series of personnel appointments and heard the town’s December 2024 monthly financial report.
The council approved reappointments and appointments by voice vote. Actions taken included reappointment of Paul Ventura to the Juvenile Hearing Board (term ending December 2028), the reappointment of James Mitchell to the West Warwick Public Library Board of Trustees (term ending February 2028), reappointment of Nancy LeBlanc to the Board of Canvassers (term ending March 2031), and the appointment of Tom Oates as the Republican alternate to the Board of Canvassers (term ending March 2031). Each motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Chris (identified in the meeting by first name) presented the town’s December financial report. Current-year tax collections were reported at $37,530,663.28, equal to 56% of the budgeted current-year tax amount after two quarters of collection; the presenter noted that many taxpayers pay annual bills in full when billed, which affects mid-year percentages. Prior-year tax collections were $1,287,079 (40% of budgeted expectation for that line), a line adjusted by $206,334.06 for the 60-day collection period. The report said expenditures were running under budget at 47% through the reporting period, and the town bank balance as of Jan. 13 was $12,271,091.08.
The presenter also said the town earned $9,713.48 in interest on $3 million in an interest-bearing sweep account at Citizens Bank, and $402,699.10 in interest on ARPA funds invested at Centerville Bank through November 2024.
Consent items included approval of the minutes from the Jan. 7, 2025 regular Town Council meeting, carried by voice vote.
