The board opened the meeting with a staff inspection summary of case number 24-101-05 (1708 Northwest Sixth Street, Lucy's Meat Market). An on-site investigator described two calls for service in the past 30 days — one medical call and one unfounded suspicious-activity call — and reported the store interior, parking lot and rear apartments were “totally in compliance.” The investigator added the business had new motion lighting and that problems reported were mainly people loitering outside; the board thanked the owner for “continued diligence.”
The board next heard case 24-03-021 (101 Southwest 30th Avenue, Rainbow Market). Staff reported four trespass-related calls in 30 days and said that, while the store was clean and had repainted the exterior, trespassers continued to use the sidewalk and parking lot. The investigator told the board the owner “knows about the trespasser” but that removing loiterers is not always possible; the board recorded no enforcement action beyond continued monitoring.
For case 24-07-032 (address reported as East Boking Park Boulevard, Star America), staff said the property had six calls in the last 30 days, including a medical call and a disturbance; inspectors recommended changes the owner made to improve interior visibility, including moving coolers away from the front window so officers can view the store during calls. The board praised the property’s cleanup and noted a new on-site flowered garden.
Case 24-08-048 (address listed as 800 Northwest Tenth Terrace) drew the most discussion. Staff reported zero calls in the past 30 days and described several on-site improvements (restriping, additional lighting and placement of temporary concrete-filled buckets and 2x4s to deter parking on newly painted stripes). Staff said three buckets had been installed but one was already damaged and the owner planned to add two more; code enforcement had concerns about movable buckets and asked that any barriers not impede pedestrian access. The investigator warned that drivers were repeatedly using the accessible parking space improperly and said, “In 20 minutes, about 7 cars pulled up, and they just pulled right into the handicap spot.” The motor unit was asked to increase enforcement to discourage illegal parking and reduce loitering.
The board moved to approve the minutes circulated by staff. A motion was made, a second was recorded and the chair called for the ayes; the chair then announced the minutes were approved. The meeting closed with routine administrative notes, including a reminder from a board member that members should respond to staff emails sent by Joyce, the board’s recorder, and that a new property will be added to next month’s agenda.
