The commission approved a consent‑agenda change order for the Baseline sports construction project at the Metro Kiwanis courts, restoring five tennis courts and adding eight pickleball courts.
Parks and Recreation Director April Norris told commissioners crews encountered electrical conflicts and grading issues that required additional work to complete the final base and asphalt in some areas. Norris said, “We're putting back the exact 5 that we have, but we are adding 8 pickleball courts in this project.” She added staff obtained a $27,000 credit related to fencing changes that reduced the additional cost.
Commissioners asked whether the new courts would be lighted; Norris said the project team had to relocate some existing lighting and that the new courts will be lighted. The consent agenda item passed unanimously.
Staff estimated the schedule was delayed by the grading and electrical work and said construction would proceed now that the change order is approved.
