The Evergreen School District presented an update on its College, Career and Technical Education (CCTE) programs at the Feb. 11 board meeting, emphasizing employer partnerships, advisory work and student internships.
Kim Berhoud, district CCTE director, told the board that Evergreen is currently the largest high‑school CTE program in the state, serving about 2,040 student full‑time‑equivalents. She described a refreshed general advisory group that brings local business and industry partners into program planning and raised the role of industry‑donated equipment and internships for student readiness.
Local business leaders described their involvement. Matt Arnold, VP of operations at Thompson Metal Fabrication and an Evergreen High School alumnus, recounted industry donations of welders and scrap metal that support welding programs. Kyle Rogers of LSW Architects described the Design Commission internship that gives students hands‑on architectural and design experience; student Claire, a senior intern, presented a recent project to combine two elementary schools in Skamania County and said the internship clarified her college and career interests.
District leaders asked the board to recognize the advisory partners and highlighted scholarship opportunities provided to participating students. No formal board action was taken on the CCTE presentation.
