Cairo council approves Main Street 2025 events calendar, including summer concerts and Juneteenth

The Cairo City Council approved a Main Street events calendar for 2025 that covers concerts, festivals and recurring downtown activities.
Amanda Raven, the city’s Main Street director, presented a consolidated list of downtown events the city will manage or cosponsor. The calendar as approved includes a downtown concert series (summer dates in July, August and September), a Saint Patrick’s Day downtown concert (March 15), a Juneteenth festival (June 21), Boo on Bridal (Halloween trick-or-treat, Oct. 31), a Christmas in Cairo tree lighting (Dec. 5) and a Mistletoe Market (Dec. 6). The list also records a Growing Grady Farmers Market on selected first Saturdays between April and October.
Council discussion covered street-closure logistics and which city departments will manage traffic and policing for events that require blocking South Broad Street from MLK to First/Third Avenues; the meeting record notes coordination with the police department for route control and the parks department for Davis Park events. The council approved individual permits and the consolidated calendar by voice vote.
Why it matters: The calendar sets dates and street-closure plans that downtown businesses, vendors and nonprofit partners will use for event planning and permit coordination. City staff will receive submitted forms (for example, Race Across America requested a city permission form for wreath-laying ceremonies in municipal cemeteries) and coordinate any cleanup or follow-up required by applicants.
The council asked staff to return if amendments are needed and to provide notices to affected residents and businesses about planned street closures and temporary power outages tied to South Brush Street infrastructure work.
