Council directs staff to study boat-trailer parking controls, signage and nonresident fees at Riverview Park

Council members discussed recurring complaints about boat-trailer parking at the Cavcor (Riverview Park) lot and directed staff to pursue signage, pavement markings and a phased enforcement plan; members also asked staff to explore nonresident parking fees and trailer decals.

Council member Nunn raised constituent concerns that boat-trailer parking spaces closest to the water were being used by event attendees and nonresidents, limiting resident access. City staff described a two-part approach: install signs at the four entrances to the Cavcor parking lot indicating “boat trailer parking only” and the existing ordinance fine (up to $100), and add pavement markings in the lot similar to the Main Street boat ramp. Staff said entrance signage could be installed quickly — possibly by the end of the week — and pavement markings would take longer while paint and crew are scheduled.

Council members asked staff to begin with warnings and public education and to work with the police department on a progressive enforcement approach. Several council members also asked staff to research parking controls that charge nonresidents while exempting residents, including the idea of trailer-mounted decals or a permit for resident trailers. Council directed staff to study nonresident fee options and report back.
