Council adopts Bee City USA resolution; scouts to plant pollinator garden

The Avon Town Council unanimously approved Resolution 2025-04 to become an affiliate of Bee City USA, a national program that promotes pollinator habitat and public education.
Planning Director Linda Albran presented three Girl Scout cadets who led the proposal as a silver award project. The scouts and Parks staff described plans to plant a pollinator garden adjacent to the Avon Community Garden, distribute 500 seed packets and prepare a brochure listing recommended native species for the area. Staff said plants are expected to be delivered in April and that they will schedule a weekend planting day.
Albran explained the Bee City USA application process differs from Tree City USA: towns adopt the resolution and then report annual activities to the organization. The Parks and Recreation Beautification Committee recommended the resolution unanimously. Council members asked about plant hardiness and zone suitability; staff said the plants ordered are appropriate for the local hardiness zone.
Council approved the resolution by roll call and paused the meeting briefly for photos with the Girl Scouts.
