Avon council approves $491,000 in design changes for Burnett Park and pickleball site

Planning Director Linda Albran and Parks and Recreation Director Shelby Bridal presented the changes to the council, saying donated fill on the Burnett Park site required a resurvey and that restroom utilities would better support staffing and long-term use. Albran said the change order increased the park contract by roughly $47,000 and revised the contract total to approximately $357,982 (discussion in the meeting corrected the precise change order amount to $355,009.82). The pickleball design contract was presented as roughly $135,925 in design fees; council packet materials showed a larger construction budget for the courts (about $800,000) coming from the parks bond.
Council members discussed timing and the priority of including restrooms for accessibility and for older players who use pickleball facilities. Parks staff said they have coordinated with the school corporation to repurpose old school tennis courts on Avon Avenue as the site for the new courts; the school has agreed to donate the land and the town will design and build the improvements.
