Providence task force hears lighting update; $500,000 in council underwriting for North Main lighting

Providence — At the Feb. 12 meeting of the Providence City North Main Street Task Force, staff provided an update on the North Main lighting project and the task force voted to continue the item after a contractor representative was not available.
Kyle Delgado, director of project management for the City Council office, delivered a brief summary and said Prism, the contractor for the lighting project, had provided a memo in lieu of an in‑person presentation. Delgado said the City Council will have spent about $500,000 underwriting lighting work on North Main when the project is complete.
Delgado described several categories of work: restoration of power to some previously installed decorative fixtures, new decorative light orders (purchase order executed but shipping not yet estimated), and work to address power connections on utility poles on northbound and southbound sides of the corridor. He said the project team is working through approvals and sourcing to mobilize installations in late spring to summer.
Because the Prism representative (Brian Woodbury) and a planned technical demonstration using an Avari tool were not available, the task force moved two procedural items: to enter the contractor memo/exhibit into the record and to continue the lighting presentation to the next meeting so the contractor can present. A member made a motion to enter the memo and the motion passed by voice vote; the group also voted to continue the item to the next scheduled meeting.
Delgado said staff would return with more detailed timing and shipping information for decorative fixtures at a future meeting and that some installations had already been completed. No capital appropriation vote was taken at the task force meeting; the $500,000 figure was presented as the council underwriting amount for the North Main lighting program.
