Facilities staff said the Frank Coomer Career Center work is complete and the Bellevue West renovation is progressing, with office demolition underway and exterior panels being cleaned to fix a color mismatch. Projected completion dates were given for office areas and full project.
Facilities director Greg Bacher updated the board on two major construction projects: the Frank Coomer Career Center and renovations at Bellevue West High School.
Bacher said the Career Center project is “pretty much wrapped up” with the entrance and elevator work finished and the building being actively used. “Whenever you go over there, you'll see kids about everywhere in the building,” he said.
At Bellevue West, crews are further along: Bacher said one exterior panel had appeared a different color because it was not washed correctly at the fabricator; crews cleaned the panels with a pressure wash and matched the facade. Interior work is underway in the administrative office area and “they were actually using sledgehammers to knock out some of the concrete walls,” he said. The office area is scheduled to be complete by mid‑July; the overall project remains on track for mid‑October completion, Bacher said.
Bacher told the board the contractor agreed to restore some parking for graduation day by moving temporary fencing so the site can accommodate more vehicles; the superintendent will work with the contractor to finalize logistics.
Board members visited the site and asked about the stage size and roofing views; Bacher said the project team will conduct a warranty walk-through a few months after the year mark to address any scuffs or defects.
No contract awards or new budget requests were presented at the meeting.
