Staff briefed the board on two bills the authority is monitoring and on reservoir conditions. The authority’s general manager said a bill sponsored by Senator Steve McNerney seeks to establish a PFAS mitigation fund to help water and wastewater agencies offset costs of PFAS mitigation; the fund might be included in a climate resilience bond being discussed in Sacramento.
Staff also noted another pending bill prompted by recent Los Angeles area fires that would impose increased fire‑preparedness requirements and reporting obligations on water districts; staff said the authority is watching closely and intends to engage local legislative offices to raise operational concerns, particularly if new reporting duties lack dedicated funding.
On operations, staff reported recent rain and current reservoir levels: Sweetwater Reservoir at about 41% and Loveland Reservoir at about 95%. Staff said soil conditions could absorb near‑term rainfall but that they are monitoring forecasts in case additional runoff or spill concerns emerge. The general manager said staff will provide updates as weather conditions evolve and will bring legislative developments to the Legislative Affairs Committee for potential board positions.
No formal board position was taken at the meeting; staff recommended continued monitoring and outreach to sponsors and local legislators as bills develop.
