Chief: Eight school-safety noncompliance events reported, all remedied within 24 hours

Chief Jimmy Williams delivered the second quarterly school-safety report required under recently passed House Bill 1473, telling the Leon County School Board that eight noncompliance issues were noted in the quarter and each was addressed the day it was reported.

“Those 8 non compliance issues…were handled in the same day and were remedied within 24 hours and reported to DOE as required by law,” Chief Williams said, offering board members an opportunity to review the executive records in his office.

The presentation was brief and procedural: Williams said the district logged the incidents, took remedial steps the same day, and filed reports with the Florida Department of Education. He invited board members to inspect the records in his office.

Board members also asked Williams whether pending legislative activity could affect school-safety rules. Williams said he had heard proposals to “deregulate some of the after-hours locked gates, locked doors” and that there were conversations about the future of app-based anonymous reporting systems such as Fortify Florida and district companion apps; he said he would follow up with the board as he learned more.

The report did not propose new board action. Williams emphasized that the district is keeping the required documentation and offered access to the records for any board member who wants to review them.
