Board discusses a dotted‑line Policy Director and better policy tracking

Board members continued a discussion about whether the district’s policy director should report with a formal dotted line to the school board so that the board — which is responsible for policy — can request and receive policy work directly.

Board members noted policy work is the board’s statutory responsibility and that a dotted‑line reporting relationship could clarify timelines and priorities for policy drafting, including the ability to set priorities without a superintendent‑level gate. One member said such a change would require updates to the policy director job description.

Members also noted a tracking and collaboration platform for board policy (a next‑generation BoardDocs/Diligent solution) could increase transparency and let board members see policy drafts, comment and set priorities. Staff agreed the district is looking at updated policy/tracking tools and would bring options forward.
