Board reviews Helios graduation projections; district to use CLT this year and expand Xello integration

District staff explained that, under state funding, the district chooses one state‑funded college‑entrance test for high schools each year; this year the majority of principals and test coordinators selected the Classical Learning Test (CLT). A staff member explained, “The CLT was the majority because it really has a lower score to help students get the HOPE scholarship and it gives more of an opportunity for those students ... to get that HOPE scholarship and also pass the requirements if they did not make the ELA requirement or the algebra passing requirement.” The district will continue to permit parents to pay for and schedule ACT/SAT for students who need or prefer those exams.
Board members also discussed career and interest surveys and tools. They noted the district’s use of Xello for student interest inventories, suggested expanding Xello integration across grades and asked for a plan to report how the district will deploy Xello data to guide course offerings, internships and community partnerships.
The board asked staff to continue regular reporting on graduation‑rate trends, to provide disaggregated data by school and demographic groups and to bring back options for aligning course offerings to postsecondary benefits.
No formal board vote occurred; staff said they will schedule follow‑up work and workshops on graduation projections and school choice marketing.
