District staff updated the School Board on bargaining with the Leon County Teachers Association (LCTA). Brett Shively reported the parties have reached an agreement in principle covering compensation, salary‑schedule adjustments and three time-limited memoranda of understanding (MOUs).
LCTA compensation: Shively said the agreement includes a 3.037% increase “across the board” for teachers who have been employed with the district more than one year. He also said the salary schedule will be adjusted to increase the dollar differences between years at specified steps (from $100 between steps to $200 between some levels), and that the district anticipates paying retroactive amounts with a March payment followed by adjustments spread across remaining paychecks.
MOUs and trial programs: Shively said the parties agreed to trial MOUs for (1) a sick-leave buyback program that would make $500,000 available over the trial period (covering the 2024–25 and 2025–26 years, as described); (2) an employee before‑and‑after‑school childcare benefit for employees, provided by the district at no charge to participating staff though the district would fund the service; and (3) a trial parental‑leave program providing up to five days of paid parental leave, as a trial for 2025–26.
Implementation notes: Shively said the agreement will apply to employees employed at the time of ratification; employees on leave who return will receive increases when they return to payroll. He also noted language in multiple contract articles and appendices was adjusted as part of the negotiations and that the full contract package — with tracked changes and a clean version — was being prepared for board review and signature.
No board vote recorded: The update was informational; Shively told trustees the contract package would be finalized and provided to the board (he said it would likely be updated the day after the meeting). No formal ratification vote was recorded in the meeting transcript.
