Brett Shively, speaking for district negotiators, told the board the district and the Leon County Teachers Association (LCTA) reached a near‑final agreement on compensation and trial memoranda of understanding.
“The union did agree to, a compensation package that provides for a 3.037 percent increase across the board for teachers who have been employed with us for more than a year,” Shively said. He added the district will revise the salary schedule to increase the dollar spacing between certain steps.
Shively said the pay increase will be retroactive to the start of the school year, with an initial payment expected in March and the remainder spread across subsequent paychecks. Employees on leave who return before implementation will have increases added when they return to payroll.
The package also includes three trial MOUs:
- A sick‑leave buyback program totaling $500,000 for the 2024‑25 and 2025‑26 fiscal years; the district will use parameters to limit participation while it evaluates costs and uptake. - A one‑year trial employee childcare MOU (beginning 2025‑26) that will provide before‑and‑after‑school care free to employees, with the district covering the cost. - A trial parental leave MOU (for 2025‑26) providing up to five days of parental leave to employees.
Shively said negotiators also adjusted contract language in several articles and in Appendix B; the full contract package — a tracked‑changes version and a clean version ready for signature — was being finalized and expected to be available to the board the next day.
No formal ratification vote was recorded in the meeting minutes. Shively described the agreement as the outcome of bargaining; board members asked clarifying questions about timing and program parameters.
