The Sykesville Mayor and Council unanimously approved Resolution 2025‑01 at its Jan. 27 meeting, allowing alcohol at select Downtown Sykesville Connection events such as the Craft Beer Festival, a wine‑tasting series and selected Sundays at the farmers market.
Joe (town staff) presented the item as a routine request: “This is again just our standard resolution to allow for alcohol, during, hard and wine, sipping on summer, the craft beer festival, and, selected sun Sundays at the farmers market,” he said. Council members asked whether dates had changed from the prior year; staff replied that the events are the same, only some dates were updated.
Council discussion included clarification that the street would be closed during these events and that walk‑in tickets for non‑alcohol consumers remain available for access to vendors. A council member noted the split of walk‑in proceeds, saying roughly half goes to the Downtown Sykesville Connection and the remainder to Main Street promotional programs.
A motion to approve Resolution 2025‑01 was made and seconded on the floor; the mayor called for a voice vote and announced the measure passed unanimously. The council did not attach new conditions to the resolution during the meeting.
The passage allows the DSC to continue serving alcohol at its established downtown events under the town’s permitting processes.
