Syed Mohammed Ashmi asked the Town Board for an update on an earlier proposal to create a student representative position at the Town Board.
Supervisor Schaffer said the proposal had been referred to the town attorney's office, which is researching the matter and will consult with the Secretary of State's office, which sets legal rules for town governments in New York. "Once we receive response back from them, then the town board could decide how we would implement it," Schaffer said. He added that the general consensus on the board had been favorable toward student involvement and said he expected the board to have information before the next meeting.
No formal vote or ordinance language was proposed at the meeting; the matter remains under legal review.
