The superintendent and board also highlighted arts and athletics: multiple students placed in statewide art contests; the Viking band performed at the Military Bowl; and high school athletics earned district, regional and state-level accomplishments, including one volleyball programs 23 consecutive district championships and a football team reaching an Elite Eight finish.
On facilities and capital projects, staff reported several ribbon cuttings in the first semester and multiple ongoing projects: cafetorium completions, high school auditorium upgrades, roof coatings, softball and concession construction, and HVAC projects. Staff said Task Order 35 (New K-8 school and additions at Destin and Baker) is large and on an aggressive schedule targeting an August 26 opening for Pine View (district expects Pine View to open August 2026). Program staff said several projects are nearing completion, and the district has a comprehensive facilities plan covering five- and ten-year needs.
The superintendent described the districts response to a snow event that closed schools for several days. He said payroll and communications continued without major interruption; staff coordinated with media, charters, the military and the state. The superintendent and other staff said the district tracked instructional minutes and would seek state guidance about testing windows and potential "forgiveness" from the state commissioner if a governor-declared state of emergency or formal district request is granted. District staff said they plan to request commissioner relief formally.
