Hamilton City School Board approves three cell-phone policies, personnel items and property purchase

The Hamilton City School Board approved final reads of three separate cell-phone policies and adopted personnel and finance items during its February meeting, President Matthews said. Board members also approved a purchase agreement to acquire 2150 Hensley Avenue from the City of Hamilton for $1 and accepted several donations to district programs.
The board voted to adopt final-read policies on student, staff and board member cell-phone use. Dr. Copas asked for clarification of the effect of a “yes” vote; he asked, “If I vote yes, that means I support a cell phone policy for the board.” The clerk replied that a “yes” vote was for passage. The motion for the board member cell-phone policy passed with recorded votes including yes votes and one abstention; Ms. Matthews recorded a no vote and Ms. Baker recorded an abstention.
Separately, the board approved human-resources agenda items A and B and then voted separately on item C in the personnel section. Board members approved items A and B unanimously. On item C one board member abstained because a family member was involved; the remaining members voted in favor.
On finance, the board approved a purchase agreement to acquire the small parcel at 2150 Hensley Avenue — described by staff as the property adjacent to Crawford Woods — for $1 from the City of Hamilton. The board also accepted donations highlighted by nearly $4,500 from Ambet’s Post 19 83 to the NJROTC program and a $500 donation to Linden Elementary’s music program from Lindenwold Kiwanis.
The board approved the consent agenda and adjourned. The board set its next meeting for Thursday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. at 533 Dade Street.
