Council requests records from fire, health, building and code enforcement on Holiday Inn and SpringHill Suites since 2023

The Peabody City Council unanimously directed city departments to compile records and reports related to the Holiday Inn Extended Stay and SpringHill Suites dating from Jan. 1, 2023, through the present.
Councilor Manning Martin moved several separate but related motions: to request the number and type of emergency calls to the Holiday Inn from the fire chief and to refer the matter to the municipal safety committee; to request records from the public health director including any activity by code enforcement officers and interactions handled by the newly created Human Services Department; and to request building commissioner records, including code-enforcement actions (the code-enforcement function is split between the building commissioner and the health department). Each motion carried on roll-call votes of 11–0.
Councilors sought comprehensive records from multiple departments to better understand municipal interactions with the hotels; the motions specified the time range (01/01/2023 to present) and named the facilities. Councilor Turco and others asked that the Human Services Department and Health Department be included in requests for information; the motions were amended on the floor to include those offices and code enforcement where applicable.
The council did not adopt any policy change or take enforcement action during the meeting; the motions were requests for records and referrals to relevant committees for further review.
