The Peabody City Council voted 11–0 to advertise an ordinance that would increase the mayor’s annual salary from $139,000 to $142,000, effective July 1, 2025.
Councilor Gould introduced the proposed amendment during the Committee of the Whole, reporting that the committee overwhelmingly supported a $3,000 raise for the mayor. Council discussion at the committee level and the subsequent motion followed the city’s ordinance-amendment procedures; the text replaces the existing salary figure with $142,000 and retains the benefit language covering full-time continuous-service employees and use of an automobile.
Under city charter and council rules, the ordinance must be advertised before a further hearing or adoption vote; the council moved to advertise the ordinance and the motion carried on a roll-call vote of 11–0.
