Emerald Coast Science Center marks 10 years, asks district support for outreach and scholarships

Diane Frasier, director of the Emerald Coast Science Center, told the Okaloosa County School Board the center celebrated its tenth anniversary at its Memorial Parkway location and is planning new programs aimed at increasing access for English language learners and low‑income families.
Frasier said the center will hold a ribbon cutting for a new dome‑capable building (an "arium") and on February 11 will offer a free Sunday afternoon event focused on English language learner families. She asked the district to approve and distribute a flyer and said the center will provide interpreters and partner with United for a Good Cause and United Way to offer snacks and support.
“...anyone that has a WIC, SNAP, or EBT card can show that card and get up to 4 people, only paying $3 a person,” Frasier said, describing the Museums for All program and the center's efforts to widen access.
Frasier also described a scholarship the center awards to a STEM‑bound high school graduate: $2,000 a year for up to four years (potential total $8,000). She said application details will be posted on the center's website.
