The Peabody City Council voted unanimously Thursday to approve the transfer of a Class 2 motor vehicle dealer license for property at 288 Newbury Street to Nick Marcos, doing business as Auto Factory.
The transfer, moved by Councilor Gamache and accepted by the council, includes conditions setting hours of operation Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.–4 p.m., and limits the Peabody portion of the license to 12 vehicles. Marcos told the council he plans to operate a second location and that part of the lot sits in Danvers; the parking plan shows room for 24 vehicles total split between Peabody and Danvers.
The council conducted a public hearing on the application; no members of the public spoke in favor or opposition. Councilors who spoke during the hearing noted Marcos has been before the council previously and that offloading/unloading vehicle operations are feasible at the site. The motion to approve carried on a roll-call vote of 11–0.
The council received and approved the building department’s report on the transfer before voting. The council president, Julie K. Daigle, presided over the hearing and the clerk read the hearing notice and application details into the record.
The approval applies only to the Peabody portion of the parcel. City documents and council discussion clarified the Danvers portion will be covered by a separate permit held or obtained in Danvers; Marcos said he currently holds a Danvers permit for that side.
Councilors did not propose further changes to hours or conditions during the vote. The council’s recorded roll-call vote lists the following members casting yes votes: Turco, Peach, Gould, Gamache, Higgins, Manning Martin, Welton, McGinn, Rosignal, Melville and Daigle.
