The Committee on Innovation, Technology and Entertainment moved on Feb. 13 to report Resolution 25‑16 recommending confirmation of Brian C. McKee as Director of Information Technology for the City and County of Honolulu.
McKee, two months into the role, told the committee he has been meeting department directors and intends to rebalance staff, raise the job of customer‑service representatives to business‑analyst roles and focus on broader adoption of cloud‑based and commercial software‑as‑a‑service options.
He said he plans to co‑locate DIT resources with departmental customers to improve continuity and institutional knowledge and to accelerate adoption of existing core systems used for procurement, treasury and accounting. McKee said the department is evaluating a constituent relationship management system and demoed a product within the last week that still needs additional work to meet council needs.
Council Members Cordero, Tupala, Okimoto and Kiana praised McKee’s outreach to offices and encouraged rapid progress on a public dashboard and an effective CRM that can integrate external emails and city workflows. McKee told members he would pursue commercially available packages if the department’s internal solution does not meet council expectations.
After discussion the chair recommended reporting Resolution 25‑16 out for adoption; the committee recorded no objections and ordered the recommendation.
