Commission approves conditional use permit for Archer’s Auto Repair at Caldwell Boulevard site

The Nampa Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 11 approved a conditional use permit for Archer’s Auto Repair to open a larger automotive repair shop at 412 Caldwell Boulevard in a BC (community business) zoning district.
Applicant Scott Schmid described operating Archer's Auto Repair since 2020 in neighboring Caldwell and said the proposed location occupies a building historically used for automotive work; he told commissioners the property would be cleaned and improved and that he expects to employ additional staff and expand revenue. Schmid said the building is recessed and not readily visible from the street and that he anticipates up to about 20–25 cars on site at peak times.
Planning Director Rodney Ashby and staff explained the BC zone now requires a CUP for light automotive repair where code has shifted over time; building and engineering comments require the applicant to meet current codes and to obtain the appropriate building-inspection signoffs. Staff noted a pre-application meeting is scheduled with the building department to identify any change-of-use compliance items, and the applicant confirmed the interior separation wall is not a fire wall and that a PAM (pre-application meeting) with building was scheduled.
Commissioners commented that the property would be a visual and maintenance improvement from its prior condition, and engineering and building conditions were included in the approval. The permit will become effective 15 calendar days after the written decision if no appeal is filed; the applicant must confirm with staff whether any appeals were filed before proceeding with on-site work.
