Board narrows treasurer search to two finalists; 2025–26 school calendar sent back for minor edits and public posting

Board members Craig and Crossett updated the Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 10 that a treasurer search committee interviewed three candidates and narrowed the pool to two finalists, who will be interviewed Feb. 19. Board members said the goal is to select a successor with enough lead time for onboarding.

Craig said the district established two participatory feedback groups for the treasurer finalists: one consisting of audit‑committee members and staff in the treasurer’s office, and a second made up of labor leaders who will be invited to give feedback. Those groups will report to the board and provide input the panel can consider during final interviews.

Separately, Superintendent Murphy and General Counsel Dan Hoang described minor edits to the proposed 2025–26 school calendar. The changes convert a previous “days” metric to an “hours” requirement for the school year to match current practice and clarify whether particular days are designated professional days or student days. Hoang cited Ohio Rev. Code §3313.48, which requires boards to hold a public hearing at least 30 days before calendar approval and to share the calendar with nonpublic schools in the district.

Board members asked about the later August start and whether the academic year would extend past Memorial Day; administration representatives said the later start was intended to allow more time for teacher professional development and classroom setup and that the calendar remains within statutory minimums for student and teacher hours. Members asked administration to post the calendar as a draft on the district website so families could see and comment; administration said it would present a formal approval resolution at the March 17 meeting.

No formal votes were taken on the treasurer position or on the calendar on Feb. 10.
