Finance committee asks city to correct apparent calculation error affecting Parks' 2025–26 transfer

The Spokane Park Board’s finance committee reported that it identified an apparent calculation error in the Parks Department’s 8% general-fund transfer for the 2025–26 budget and will ask city administration and the City Council to correct the figure.
At the committee’s February review, members discussed prior requests from city administration for departmental budget reductions and confirmed that Parks had approved a resolution last August describing how reductions would be implemented. Committee members said an improved overall forecast reduced the scale of required reductions for future years, but the budget office continues to request departmental assistance in balancing 2025–26. The finance committee’s final review found what appears to be a mathematical error in the Parks’ transfer calculation and in the subsequent budget reduction; the committee agreed to draft a letter to city administration and council requesting correction. Committee members said Parks will reduce expenditures during the year to help balance the city budget until a correction is enacted.
The committee reported two action items moved to the consent agenda; no monthly financials were presented at the meeting. The finance committee’s next meeting is scheduled for March 11.
