House recognizes Central High School flag football state and national champions

The Alabama House adopted a resolution commending the Central High School (Phenix City) girls flag football team for winning the 2024 AHSAA state championship and being named 2024 national champions by MaxPreps and USA Today.
Representative Blackshear introduced the resolution and invited players and coaches to the floor. Coach Mitchell Holt and player Garrett Griggs addressed members; Griggs thanked the House and described the team as “a special group of individuals that value relentless work ethic, selflessness, and importance of having fun.” Representative Blackshear and others highlighted that several players and coaches participated in the NFL Pro Bowl flag showcase and that the program has expanded at the college level in Alabama.
The House adopted the resolution by voice vote and then added the full House as cosponsors. Members applauded the team and said the program illustrated the growth of girls’ flag football in the state and the educational and athletic opportunities it creates for student-athletes.
